The works are 1. Symphony; 2. Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra (Tumbling Strain), soloist Alain Trudel; 3. Rhapsody for Saxophone and Orchestra, soloist Allen Harrington; 4. Glenside. The disc was funded principally by the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the Canada Council. “Rhapsody” (the third movement of Symphony) was nominated for Outstanding Classical Composition at the 2006 Western Canada Music Awards. The works utilize techniques drawn from the composer’s Doctoral studies in Composition, including 12-tone rows, interval pairs, and process music. Nonetheless a light and even playful mood predominates throughout the disc. |
